Hey ladies!
The other day, my oldest daughter told me that I smelled. Gross, I know. I hadn’t showered in three days…there are so many demands on us moms and taking a shower or thinking about myself always comes last at the end of the day. I try my best to spend 10 minutes before the kids wake up getting ready. Putting myself together always makes me feel more confident about taking on the day. However, taking time for myself beyond that, or doing something for myself, always seems to come last.
My husband has been really encouraging me to do more of it these days as I was at a breaking point a bit ago. He has been talking with me about not losing a sense of self to motherhood — a balancing act to which I am still learning to find the right, healthy medium — since he knows that it’s important to me and thus to our family life.
Like all other moms, I find myself thinking of the girls, my husband’s needs, the housework, unanswered emails, work, yard work, errands, and rarely about my own mental well-being or self care. But, in all reality a happy mom makes for a happy family. For example, getting enough sleep most days or taking a nap when I need to means that I have more patience throughout the day. Getting a break of the kids to work alone in a coffee shop, think alone at my desk upstairs, or having a girls’ night, makes me feel more energized coming back to my children and to my mom duties. These intentional breaks make me feel refreshed and ready to take care of them and all the needs that come along with it. So, in sum, taking care of yourself, cultivating your own interests, and addressing your own personal needs, means that you are providing an example to your family that by taking care of yourself you are equipping yourself to better serve them.
Recently, I have been intentionally ending the day by slipping into my robe or favorite pajamas, doing a face mask, reading a book or magazine, and talking to my husband for at least 5 minutes about stuff other than life logistics, who needs to do what, and parenting…things have been going so much better.
Beautcounter’s face masks are seriously my all-time favorites. I have always been a huge fan of their charcoal mask {re-packaged HERE}, but have been loving the Vitamin C/Brightening Mask as well. They have a third mask, which I’m eager to try, but for now have been rotating between the balancing line and the brightening line. What I love about the balancing one, is that its properties clean out your pores like none other and leave your skin feeling tighter, refreshed, and pure. The Brightening Mask and Collection definitely gives you that summer glow. Made with argon and avocado oil, and kadau plum extract, this mask brightens the skin. Make sure to check out the masks HERE and the entire collections HERE if you are in the market for some at-home spa time! I’ve loved the difference that they have made to my skin and they are now definitely a part of my beauty product favorites. They would also make for great gifts, just saying, for any special lady in your life as well! 🙂 You can see the entire collection and grab your favorites here.
At-home pampering has become such a little bit of rest in my life and something that I look forward to at the end of each day. What do you all do to get some ME-time?! I would love to know! Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope that you are having a great day! xo Christine
